अथा॑ ते॒ अन्त॑मानां वि॒द्याम॑ सुमती॒नाम् । मा नो॒ अति॑ ख्य॒ आ ग॑हि ॥

This is another gem. Let us look at the play of anunasika sounds in this rik, the Ma- and na- sounds. They are clustered in the middle of the rik. There are three na- and 5 Ma- sounds in the first two padas. The third pada begins with Ma-
The anunasika sounds become an inner vibration in the sinuses, nasal cavity and head. This is appropriate for the knowledge from Indra that is innermost. The sound moves from a- at the beginning of the rik and moves to the sinuses and head in the middle. The entire arrangement of sounds is critical to run the meaning in parallel with sounds or let the sound confirm the meaning
Also, the svaras of the poem rise beautifully against the three separate a- sounds and one aa- near the end. The six aa- notes are spread throughout the rik as an invitation to Indra.
The first two padas create one musical movement of thought; the third pada comes as a counterpoint with an idea that seems counterintuitive. We are asking Indra not to give us more than the ability of our adhaara. Yet, we invite Indra at the end and close a remarkable paradoxical insight
Read it first as normal Sanskrit poem. Then chant if you can with the three svaras or have someone do it for you. It is a superb rhythmic movement that sends chills down my spine, literally

What is difference between Vedic and Western linguistics?

Western linguists say that the word refers to a thing or the sign signifies something outside it
Vedic linguistics says that the sound is never separate from the thing even in the most external expression. As the experience of sound goes deeper and higher the difference between the sound and the thing falls away. The sound is the meaning
What does this tell us? If we pay attention each seed sound has its own quality that is its color, or varna. So when we hear these seed sounds we move towards music where the sound conveys the message on its own. The Veda is very conscious of these seed sounds and the entire arrangement of its verse celebrates and respects this unique quality of Sanskrit
