Lower nature is body, lower vital being and lower mind and subconscious and inconscient. In Integral yoga, Purity is defined as closeness to Divine.  To the degree one's thought or will or emotions or body's impulses are fully aligned to Divine consciousness, they are pure. While most path of yoga focus only on moksha and escape from the world, Integral yoga focuses on both realising the Divine and using it to divinising the world and our nature. So purification of lower nature is considered critical. That purity is accomplished by submitting each part of our nature to the Divine inside us (called psychic being). For a more accurate and nuanced discussion of this, pls refer to the writings of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo.
